Transmission Artist
NEUROTRANSMITTER
neuroTransmitter (Angel Nevarez + Valerie Tevere) came together in 2001 as a collaborative whose work fuses conceptual practices with transmission, sound production, and mobile broadcast system design. Through the combination of sound, installation, drawing, video, music production, performance, and further collaboration, nTs work re-articulates radio in multiple environments and contexts public, exhibition, over the airwaves considering new forms and possibilities for radio transmission. neuroTransmitters public performances connect FM radio technology and the body - negotiating, performing, and sonically mapping the invisible and physical spaces of the city. As radio-sonic installation, further work references the politics, history, and technology of the medium.
neuroTransmitter has created visual works, performed, and broadcasted live on local bandwidths in public spaces and galleries throughout New York City; St. Petersburg, Russia; New Plymouth, New Zealand; Munich, Weimar, and Stralsund Germany; Columbus, Ohio; Helsinki, Finland; Aarhus, Denmark; and Madrid, Spain. nT has lectured and performed at the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at the New School; the Radio Lab at Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany; and NIFCA, Helsinki, Finland. From 2003-04, nT was artist-in-residence with the Research and Development program at Eyebeam, New York City, and in 2005 was awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts artist fellowship.
